The 'Vision School' (Sekolah Wawasan) is a school redesigned in establishing racial integration among students in Malaysia by promoting maximal physical and social interaction among school communities. It is a primary school complex which housed two or three primary vernacular school (Malay, Chinese and Tamil) in one compound by sharing common school facilities. Past literature reviews found existing education policy of 'Vision School' has limiting the success rate on achieving the main objectives of its establishment and also has been reflected onto school design and planning.
Current school design and policy has limiting social interaction and exchange among students due to minimal integration in both physical and social aspects. Based on analysis and existing case studies, the designer has explored main integration element in school planning and design which should be done concurrently with improvement from existing policy. This design exploration is mainly focusing onto the architectural design on maximising personal cross-ethnical communication among school community in various approaches.
